CLOVERDALE FINISHES IN BUDGET TRAVEL TOP TEN
Strong Finish Pushes Town into Second Place in Nationwide Contest
The coordinated efforts of town members dubbed “Operation Coolness” helped Cloverdale,
California, northernmost town in Sonoma County, finish in the top ten in Budget Travel
Magazine’s “Coolest Small Towns” onlinecontest. Chosen from a write-in field of 147 very
cool towns, Cloverdale was one of 21 small towns vying for a coveted spot in the top ten,
ensuring mention in the September issue of Budget Travel Magazine.
A combination of computer savvy and just plain moxie fueled an online voting frenzy that spread
throughout Sonoma County and beyond. Ron Siegemund and Chelsea coordinated online voting
with daily Facebook reminders and email blasts to widespread friends, reminding “Remember
you can vote every five hours!”
Mayor Carol Russell enlisted fellow elected officials to remember “A vote for Cloverdale is a
vote for Sonoma County.”
Cloverdale garnered over 74,000 online votes, making them the highest vote getter in the
Western United States.
